What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is the deep and oftentimes long work of delving into long-standing emotional, relational and behavioral patterns. We all have habits and hang-ups that are built from years of defenses and coping mechanisms. Ultimately, these can prevent us from continuing to grow and experience life fully. Psychotherapy can be a place to do this deep inner work of engaging our past so we can live more fully into ourselves in the present.

How is it different from counseling?

Counseling is often short-term and solution focused around particular issues or areas. These are things that can be "resolved" within weeks or months. The work of psychotherapy is deeper and longer, taking months and years. Psychotherapy looks at what's under a person's thoughts, emotions and behaviors in an attempt to understand the unconscious processes at play and the patterns that have formed over time.

What can I expect in a psychotherapy session?

Psychotherapy sessions typically run 45-50 minutes once a week. We will work in the "here and now" of your experience as we sit in chairs facing each other. The content of the session is co-created by whatever material the client brings for us to dialogue and engage with together.

Sessions are $175. 
Sliding scale options available.

effective?

As a relational psychodynamic psychotherapist, I believe the greatest factor in what makes psychotherapy an effective agent for change is the therapeutic relationship. We are deeply relational beings, made for and by our relationships. This is why not all therapists work for all people. Finding the right fit for you is an important first step in your therapeutic journey!

I work with: teens (ages 13+) and adults, all genders & orientations, any faith/religious backgrounds, any racial and ethnic identities. â€‹

I have experience working with:

processing childhood abuse & trauma, sexual abuse

religious/spiritual abuse, faith deconstruction, PTSD, navigating life transitions, grief & loss, anxiety, depression, 

sexual identity, and interpersonal conflicts.
